Ceol PR are proud to present to you The Jades who are Sheila (vocals & guitar), Elaine (vocals & lead guitar) and Yvonne (vocals & drums) hailing from the very sunny south east of the country. Take the polished harmonies and playful rock and roll of The Bangles, throw in some Dolores O’Riordan soul satisfying vocals and the instantly catchy hooks of The Coronas and you have Ireland’s newest and most vibrant girl group ‘The Jades’.

All members of The Jades come from Kilmuckridge in county Wexford and first met at primary school.

As Yvonne says, “We have been in a band together for what feels like forever at this stage! We learned our spellings together in primary school and formed the band after finishing our leaving certs. We have taken a year or two off in between the time to pursue college and other things, but hey!, what good relationship hasn’t!”

Before the band came together, each member had built up considerable experience performing locally in musicals and shows, but The Jades was the first formal band any of them joined when they came together after finishing school.  They first came to public attention in Ireland through their colourful live shows and their appearances on the RTE series You’re A Star.

Like every all-female band, The Jades have to contend with the tendency to be judged by their looks, but their band manifesto is based on a desire to be perceived as a talented original band, playing their own instruments and writing their own songs.

For the past year The Jades have been in the studio working on their debut album with David Odlum  producing (David Kitt/Gemma Hayes/The Frames).  The first fruit of their combined efforts titled ‘Sooner or Later’,  will be released on May 16th , on their own Rag Doll label. The single has already been described by  one music industry insider as “a pounding slice of melodic pop/rock with harmonies to die for”.

All of the tracks on their forthcoming album are originals by The Jades who pride themselves on being one of the few all-female bands in Ireland – or the world for that matter -  writing their own songs and playing their own instruments.

According to guitarist and backing vocalist Elaine, “We’ve recorded the album, including the single, mostly in Wexford and in Sun Studios in Temple Bar and then we spent ten days in France to add the finishing touches. We’re really excited about getting the album done and getting the single out. We’re also looking forward to doing some live gigs after having been in the studio for so much of last year”.

Interesting facts:

  • Two members have won county medals within the GAA for Wexford.
  • There is a ploughing champion in someone’s family.
  • They played their fi rst gig with a backwards name.
  • Their manager also manages an Oscar winning musician
